Varis is located at Reraig, Balmacara, Kyle Of Lochalsh, IV40 8DH and is in an elevated position overlooking Loch Alsh. While being readily accessed from the main A87 route to the Skye Bridge, the house sits at the 430m away at end of a side road so is very quiet.
Public transport is an option with the delightful Kyle of Lochalsh line running from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, usually 4 times a day in summer but please refer to ScotRail for information . It is one of the iconic railways journeys, sometimes described as a symphony in three parts: pastoral, mountain and sea so even if you don't travel to Varis by train, a trip can be part of your holiday.
CityLink runs services from Glasgow (No 916) and Inverness (No 917). From Edinburgh, it's probably fastest to join the bus at Glasgow. Buses will stop on request at the bottom of the hill - ask to be put off at the Balmacara Hotel. These coaches run to over the bridge to Broadford, Portree and Uig to connect to the ferry to the Western Isles.
Most local bus and coach services here are operated by Stagecoach. You can download a timetable for their Skye services from here. (Select location = "Skye" and Route = "North Skye" or "South Skye" as needed.)
MacLean's offer a limited service from Auchtertre Business Park down the Sleat peninsula but only the services that include the Auchtertyre Business Park pass Reraig. Link for Mcleans Coaches
Traveline will plan your public transport journey for you. Select Balmacara Hotel, Reraig as your destination.
Kyle Taxis 01599 534323 also act as the local car, van and minibus hire company and Skyeways 01599 534328 offer taxis and custom tours. Advance booking is strongly recommended.
